When searching for or renewing your car's insurance policy it makes sense to ensure you are still getting the most suitable deal - and this means thinking about anything that may be to your advantage when making an application.

Thanks to much publicity on TV it is now well understood that women drivers benefit from lower car insurance premiums than men. The reason for this is simple - girls are statistically better drivers than men.

Insurance companies base their prices on risk - the greater the risk a customer poses, the more expensive their quote will be. Men are statistically worse drivers, having serious accidents more often, and as a result they get charged higher car insurance prices. This is because men often drive faster and take greater risks. Likewise women can be said to be better drivers as they tend to be involved in fewer accidents, and the accidents they do have tend to be minor prangs instead of major incidents.

However what many women don't realise is that most of the 'specialist' women's car insurance companies don't actually offer the cheapest prices - in fact, all car insurance companies will offer discounts to women, so it is important to compare prices of insurance policies before committing if you wish to be sure you get the best deal. This way you know that you are really getting the cheapest policy - and not paying extra for unneccessary 'bonus features' such as handbag insurance that you may never need.

It's worth noting too that although the difference between young men and young lady drivers is considerable, as men grow older their driving style improves and they take fewer risks as they become more aware of their own mortality. As a result older women are likely to find they see less of a discount than younger women - but hopefully after several years driving their no claims bonus should more than make up for the difference.About Author:I've spent years working in the insurance industry and know that you can never be too careful.
