My friend came to me one rainy afternoon in July and told me he wanted to sell his car to a buyer that would take care of the automobile as much as he did. His efforts to preserve his car's beauty were just too much to be ignored and he presumed that I, being a car guy, would happen to know a buyer just as meticulous as I am when it comes to owning cars. It just so happens that I do know someone! To make a long story short, the car was sold and I earned a commission for doing so (we call that "finders fee" in car lingo) and all I had to do was present the car and the offer to the buyer and they did the rest. The same principle holds true for affiliate marketing. Only difference is, affiliate marketing happens online on the internet.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online. A website owner will post ads of a particular seller or merchant either to help sell the product or possibly to direct potential customers to the merchant's website. If the merchant successfully sells his products thru the website's ad, the website owner earns a commission for posting the ad or for letting the merchant post an ad on his website. As presented in the story above, I was the affiliate. Though I did not post any ads, the act of offering the car to a potential buyer is almost the same thing. And affiliate marketing works on the same principle that the affiliate and the merchant's relationship should be beneficial to both parties. My friend had the luxury of not paying for any advertising. He sold his car easily because I already directed the buyer to him. The buyer got what he wanted. Everybody's happy and this is what affiliate marketing should be about.
In affiliate marketing, the website owner will make money online through three different ways: Pay per click, pay per sale and pay per lead. Pay per click is when a potential buyer leaves the affiliate's website by clicking on the link of the merchant's website. A certain amount of money (depending on the agreement of both parties) is deposited to the affiliate's account every time this happens. Pay per sale is when a sale is consummated as a result of the ad appearing on the affiliate's website wherein the affiliate earns commission. Pay per lead is when a potential client registers on the merchant's website as a result of the advertisement that appeared on the affiliate's account. The affiliate earns money by doing almost nothing and the merchant gets to sell his products easily without expensive advertising fees that need to be renewed often.
Affiliate marketing provides the website owner an alternative to make money online provided that the affiliate and the merchant agree on all the terms involved.
